Nine Cobb football teams make postseason

It’s that time of year again: the GHSA football playoffs! After a tense and unusual season—one that was shortened and limited in attendance by COVID—nine Cobb School District schools are preparing to make their playoff run and a bid for a state championship. Four teams in 6A, and five teams in 7A will be practicing this week for Friday’s first-round games.

In 6A, all Cobb Schools are in the same region: 6-6A. The top four teams—Allatoona, Kell, Sprayberry, and Kennesaw Mountain—are playoff bound. As last year’s state runner-up, Allatoona will be looking to make a big statement as it enters the championship tournament. The Bucs host Johns Creek at home. Kell is also looking to make an announcement in their first season in 6A as they host Cambridge on Friday. Sprayberry will travel to Creekview, and Kennesaw will be making the short drive northeast to Woodstock to take on River Ridge. The 6A bracket can be viewed here.

In 7A, Cobb has schools in two regions: 2-7A and 3-7A. In Region 2, McEachern and Pebblebrook are the #3 and #4 seeds respectively, and will be on the road to two other Cobb Schools for their first games. The Indians travel across the county to Region 3 #2 seed Walton, while the Falcons head north to take on Region 3 leader, North Cobb. The remaining team in Region 3, Harrison, will be making a longer trek outside the District to take on Newnan. The 7A bracket can be viewed here.

Good luck to all Cobb Schools in your postseason play!
